Know about NYSC Orientation camp in Benue state

Welcome to NYSC Orientation camp, Wannune, Tarka local government, Benue state.

Hope you didn't see Borno state when the letter was first delivered to you before you realise it is Benue state?

Don't worry, Benue state is Boko Haram free, so forget the insecurity excuss.

Immediately the bus drops you to the front gate and immediately you enter the gate the journey begins. "Double up" is what you will hear from the soldiers except if you arrive in camp before the official day camp will open.

Either it is the official camp opening day or not that you arrive in camp the first thing you should do is to look for a comfortable space in any of the rooms. There are male and female hostels with bunks alone. You are to bring foam into it yourself. Some rooms are fully fitted with fans.

There was electricity althrough my stay in that camp, meaning that you should expect at least 20hrs of electricity supply each day.

Make sure you are with extension socket for your phone(s). Mind you, there are no socket on the walls of the rooms except from some female rooms. In case you didn't find any socket in your hostel you have to improvise somehow since there is connection in the hostels that is connected to the bulb and fans, my warning is that you mustn't be caught doing that by the hostel inspector, so you must be at alert to remove all improvisations, once you smell stranger then maybe fix it back once the road is clear.

For a better network experience, a glo sim will be better. All other lines too may be available but glo is more stable than any of them, though i used airtel when i was in the camp and it served my purpose, etisalat fluctuated, mtn was available in some places, in short make sure you have a glo line, it might fuckup too but it will be better than the rest.

The toilets and bathrooms are ok at least i give it a 70% score. This is due to the fact that there is someone in charge of washing them on daily basis.

This is raining season already, be prepared to eat fruits. Meanwhile the cold might be naughty to some people, so,  if you are allergic to cold it is advisable you are with your white cardigan. Once the rain stops the sunshine will also show you what it's made up of, so the intake of cold pure water will rise.

The orientation camp in Benue doesn't have a conducive lecture hall. Heat will be much during sunshine and cold during rain since it is an uncompleted hall that is ceilingless but covered with metal. That hall is the same hall Christian service holds on Sundays except from Catholic Christians.

Don't expect large quantity of food because it is the basket food of the nation. In fact, if you didn't go to the kitchen on time you will not get food. If you are the type that prefer to satisfy yourself you can leave the kitchen for those who cant afford the food at mammi.
If you are a religious person who likes to go to church, there is church program everyday, but pls make sure you collect your food in the kitchen immediately the trumpet sounds for food or beg one of your friends who doesn't attend service to help you collect yours after he/she might have collected and kept his'/her's like i did for a friend, but they will not give you if they know you want to collect it for someone since many people can collect up to uncountable times once they have the meal card.

Tap or well is far from the male hostel but a bit closer to female's hostel. You can be buying water from indigenes at #20-30 per bucket anytime you need water. Also, whenever you can't wash your clothes or shoes, the indigenes are there to wash, iron for you in exchange for money.

It is important you don't forget anything at home. Click here to know the needed materials for camp, remember,  from Lagos it is up to 13hrs or more or at times less by 1hr or 30mins(depending on the speed of the bus) drive to Benue state,so, you will not want to risk the journey back to take what you have forgotten.
